Last December I took a beat and looked around at the blogosphere, and holy shit did I get depressed. First, so many honest, unfiltered, unafraid blogs I had loved to read were gone, or had transformed into corporate-sponsored inspirational shopping juggernauts. Second, I felt so sad that the small-but-mighty community we'd made on SWIILPT seemed to disappear as more and more blogs competed for attention (and, honestly, my own attention to technology and site maintenance was nonexistent). Third, I fell into the deep, despairing comparison game: how could some blogs have built huge followings that allowed them to open shops, publish books and start businesses, while I felt like I was basically talking to myself through my modem? I was thisssssclose to walking away, but guess what...
Today is the Sixth Anniversary of So What If I Like Pretty Things!
I started this blog in 2010, when I was 23, taking pictures of my clothes in a mirror and writing about style. This is the beginning of a new iteration of SWIILPT - one that is going to stay true to exactly who I am, whether or not it's a success, whether or not it's in vogue, whether or not anyone ever reads this. (If you are reading along though, please say hi! Leave me a comment, send me an email - I would love to hear from you!!!)
What should you expect? A blog about style. Real style - not just trends, runways, or celebrity coverage. My own outfit posts, of course. Playlists. Cocktail recipes. Great books, thoughtful magazines. Style icons, both old and new. California dreaming. Gorgeous design. Favorite places and spaces. Features on some of the ridiculously cool women in my life. A lot of photos of flowers. The occasional photobomb by my cat. Musings about life, musings about love.
I can't wait to start fresh here.
If you ever want to read any of the old content, it's still there - at melliott930.blogspot.com. But personally, I'm ready to only look ahead.
To new beginnings, and to always rocking your swag.
