As 30 approaches I've begrudgingly accepted that I need to take care of my skin. My parents passed down pretty excellent genes, but I've finally noticed the reality of age catching up with my luck. I honestly had never even used a face moisturizer until a year ago, let alone a foundation with SPF. I didn't have any idea of where to start, and I've tried anywhere from 15 to 20 different products in the past several months - but I've finally landed on a routine that balances my skin, is minimal on chemicals, and makes me feel like a spring chicken again.
Thanks to some great skincare advice from my freakishly young-looking older sister (when we go out people think I'm older than her, and she's 10 years my senior), I decided to check out Yesto - an SF-based company that specializes in plant-based, non toxic skincare. No phthalates, parabens, or silicones to be found in these puppies - and the different product lines are geared toward different skin needs. I went for the Cucumber line because I loved that it smelled like a spa, and that it was geared toward sensitive skin. I use these three products (plus my trusty Mia) every night before bed and my skin has honestly never felt better. (BTW, the facewipes are also a GODSEND when traveling.)
Alba Botanica is another paraben, phthalate, and sulfate free brand, and these two gems are my weekly at-home spa treatment. The mini peel burns a bit, in that weirdly good/satisfying way that makes me think it's really doing something - and every time I use it my pores are noticeably smaller. The mask is really calming & helps control the occasional redness that has started showing up on my face.
The good news is that none of these products break the bank. I could have easily let myself fall into the $200 miracle cream trap but I made a deliberate choice to not go over the top. The result is a routine that feels satisfying, calming, and indulgent - but totally guilt-free.
Here's hoping that it's better to be late than never!
