Are you ready for an enormous surprise???!!!!! I am a very sentimental person.
A huge part of the fun in fashion is the emotional response you can draw, both out of yourself and the rest of the world. I have always dressed based on emotion - it's all I know how to do. My favorite example of this is sentimental jewelry. It's sentimental nature means that it doesn't have to be perfect, trendy, cool, expensive, iconic, pretty.....honestly, the best pieces are usually falling apart, and their power isn't in the way they look. The power is in their emotional significance to the wearer.
Of course that emotional significance can come from anywhere. For me, it's usually about a memory of a specific person. Maybe something my grandma passed down to my mother (who then passed it on to me). Maybe it's a gift from an old love. Maybe it's a souvenir someone brought me back from the other side of the world - some place I dream of traveling to. Sometimes it's about the place I purchased something, or something I felt on that same day or trip.
I couldn't photograph all of my favorites (a woman has to have some secrets, right?), but these are a few of my most precious pieces. Any time I wear one of them it feels like a good luck charm.
