Still keeping it minimal. I wanted to wear all white . . . and ended up looking like a house painter in heels.

There's something about a completely blank slate that feels original, especially for a girl like me, who can usually be found in no fewer than 3 colors and 2 prints at a time. I didn't wear any makeup when I wore this outfit, which felt...strange, as much as I hate to admit it. I normally wear makeup every day - not a lot, but enough that I somehow feel covered/protected: some foundation, mascara, lipstick, maybe blush. I'm trying to fight the feeling that I'm not ready to face the world without it. I've been going bare at least one day a week, and doing a clean face with an all-white outfit seemed to make sense.

It also seemed to make sense not to brush my hair - a decision I still stand by.

This is the only way I'm comfortable wearing a miniskirt during the day: with flats, an enormous soft sweater, and zero makeup. In the spirit of Keep it Simple week, I'm not even wearing any patterns (!!!!!!) and I can't even remember the last time that happened.

My search for a giant grey vneck sweater began immediately after seeing this image in Love Style Life - - I loved how the model styled it falling off her shoulder and that's the only way I ever wear this sweater now.

This hat is one of my favorite pieces: it's the logo of the Chicago Whales, who were a baseball team from 1914 to 1916. Even though I don't care for baseball, I am obsessed with both Chicago and whales, sooo...I also never thought in a million years I'd wear ballet flats, but I'm so into these I've bought 2 backup pairs already. So soft, so easy, and I love the dusty blue. (They're still available here, in a zillion colors, if you're interested!)

Tomorrow Keep It Simple week will take a slight turn toward happy hour...stay tuned for a post about 2-ingredient cocktails!

I feel like I'm on a clothing cleanse lately. As much as I still love pattern, color, and crazy shapes, the things I actually get out from my closet every morning are pure simplicity. (It's also been pretty chilly in the Bay, so I haven't been able to utilize the arsenal of summer dresses I brought from Chicago when I moved here.)

"Keep it Simple" was the motto of my weekend, and it's going to be the theme of this week's posts. I've been pretty inconsistent about posting lately, so I'm trying for one post per day this week. Lord help me!
